There are some design criteria's that should be met while designing a web page or web site in order to make it search engine compatible and user friendly to the user of that web page/web site.

Avoid unnecessary animations and flash:
Animation and Flash makes the web pages heavy and difficult to download. Moreover due to increase in the size, registration in the search engines become difficult.

Content and Links:
The web page should have original and update content to keep the interest of the user. The links on the web site should be located on the same place, so that the user knows them.

Design and layout:
Try and use not more than 3 colors on the web site, to maintain the uniqueness of the web site. Images should be given "ALT Tag" and their width and height for faster download of the images. The format for the images should be ".jpg" & ".gif".

Meta Tags:
The key to good promotion in the search engines to provide meta tags in the "head" of the HTML documents. Meta tags includes keywords, description and title.
